Welcome to the World of Pepe!

We’re so glad you arrived here at the official web site for the Barking Detective series of humorous mystery novels, which feature a talking Chihuahua, named Pepe, who is adopted by Geri Sullivan, who has just begun working for an eccentric PI.

Our fifth book in the Barking Detective series, The Silence of the Chihuahuas, came out at the end of 2015. In this fifth volume in the series, Geri is dismayed when her previously talkative dog stops talking (but starts blogging). Our Christmas story, A Chihuahua in Every Stocking, is included as a special bonus in the back of the book. Set in the wintery wonderland of Leavenworth, Washington, it follows Geri and Pepe as they try to find a lost Chihuahua on Christmas Eve.

The first novel featuring Pepe, which explains how he helped Geri solve a murder and they become a detective team, is called Dial C for Chihuahua. It came out in October 2012. The second book in the series, Chihuahua Confidential, debuted on April 1, 2013 and recounts the adventures of Geri and Pepe in LA performing in a reality TV show called Dancing for Dogs. In the third book in the series, The Big Chihuahua, Geri and Pepe go undercover to investigate a cult that worships an ancient dog spirit known as Dogawanda. The fourth book, The Chihuahua Always Sniffs Twice, takes the dynamic duo to Sequim, Washington during the lavender festival where they are protecting a pack of spoiled dogs who have been left a fortune. You can order all of Pepe’s adventures: find the books at your favorite bookstore.

Just finished both of the books in the series and enjoyed them immensely! Can hardly wait for “The Big Chihuahua”. Very entertaining reads. Thank you for these wonderful books and keep up the good work.

Thank you so much, Mr. Colbert and Mrs. Fitzgerald, for the Pepe and Geri novels. I’ve read all three, and I am sincerely impressed with the narrative quality, plot twists, and the characterization of everyone. Pepe especially steals the show, what with having such a big, intelligent, loving personality in such a small body.

I am also thankful for the explanation of why wolf-dog hybrids make poor pets; I am of the belief that wild things should be kept wild.

These are books I could share with my mother, since she had a Chihuahua as a little girl, and she still thinks the breed is precious. Normally we have different literary tastes, but Mom and I both agree the trilogy is enjoyable, an easy read, and so very fun.

If there are any plans for more stories involving Pepe, Geri, and their loved ones, then I will be waiting with tongue-lolling, tail-wagging anticipation to see them in print.

Thank you again, and take care.

Love Love Love these books, but am saddened that A Chihuahua in Every Stocking is not available in paper form. 🙁

I know, Francine. We are sad too! Because it is our favorite so far! Perhaps you can borrow it from your library? I know some libraries have e-borrowing options. Or convince a friend who has an e-reader to let you borrow theirs for a day. Read it someplace where you can cry discreetly. Despite the fact that we wrote it, I still can’t read the ending without crying: sweet, happy tears, the best kind.
